Welcome to Cornerstone Personal Fitness

Cornerstone Personal Fitness was created out of my love for fitness and for helping people reach their goals. Like you, I have my own personal health and fitness goals I'm working towards and along my journey there have been key people who have helped me advance towards those goals. I am truly grateful for having them in my life. Having the support of someone who truly cares about me reaching my goals has been invaluable.

  • The “Daily Deal” vs. reaching your goals…

For about a year and a half now, we have all seen literally thousands of "Daily Deals" pouring into our inbox from just about every kind of company out there offering just about anything in hopes that we'll buy it because of it's incredibly low price.  Some deals have offered savings of over $100.00 dollars, so how could you not seriously consider buying it?   In 2011, I lost count of how many Boot Camps were offered ...

  • FOOD FIGHT!

Yes!  I loved the movie Animal House and thought the food fight scene was hilarious.  However, that's not what today's blog topic refers to.  Unfortunately, it refers to the huge food makers continued willingness to produce and sell foods that continue to make America more and more unhealthy.  I just read another blog entry that completely confirms this to be true.  Companies can't profess to care about people's health and continue to produce foods that ...

  • Health & Wellness of Sacramento County

I read a recent article in the Sacramento Bee that ranked Sacramento County as much unhealthier than its surrounding counties.  While Placer, Yolo, Nevada and Eldorado counties were "all" ranked in the top 10 healthiest counties in California, Sacramento was ranked in 31st place.  The article states the county health rankings tabulated by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation looks at how healthy residents are in the United States.   It ...

  • Fitness Economics

OK!  I know my last blog entry addressed the issue of how gyms and fitness centers really are not the standard for helping us life our very best life.  This seems to be a very hot topic right now, because I read a few more blogs and articles today and one article in particular on Livestrong.com quoted Medical News Today stating that "80 percent of 40 million Americans who have bought gym memberships are not ...

  • Gym Memberships vs. Living Your Best Life

Anyone who knows me or has read my blog knows I'm not a fan of gyms and fitness centers; especially the big ones and for very legit reasons.  I truly believe there is too much information out there that backs up my belief that gyms and fitness centers are no longer the standard for helping people live their best life.  I recently read one more newspaper article that adds to that list of support.  I ...

  • When things go wrong…

"Things don't go wrong and break your heart so you can become bitter and give up. They happen to break you down and build you up so you can be all that you were intended to be.” Livestrong.com   We've all experienced it and worse yet, seen it happen to our loved ones.  So many times we're left feeling helpless as to how to build ourselves back up and it ...

  • Goals vs. What It Takes To Reach Them

As a Certified Personal Trainer, I'm always talking about goals including setting, reaching and maintaining them.  However, I find that too many people setting goals don't understand or don't prepare themselves mentally for what it's actually going to take to reach their goals.  This is supported by all the people who make their New Years resolutions list every year, but then give up on them by February or March.  They have every intention of reaching ...

  • California vs. Obesity

Do you know that based on a study completed by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), that obesity in California has gone from less that 10% in 1985 to almost 25% in 2010?  That means almost a quarter of this state is obese!  What's worse is this number just keeps climbing.  Now you may look at other states and see some of them at almost 33%.  Do not feel good about that because if we ...

  • Caloric Deficits

Caloric deficits are a subject that many people have great difficulty understanding.  Even some trainers have a hard time explaining it so their clients really understand.  The goal is to put your body in a position where it will burn as much body fat as possible, in the least amount of time.  Let me give you two simple scenarios that I believe will make this confusing subject much easier for everyone to understand.  We'll use ...

  • Do you know…

This Blog posting begins a periodic series of postings focused on helping my readers increase their vocabulary in regards to their health, fitness and nutrition.  My wife, who is an elementary Principal, always tells her students that knowledge is power!  As we start to increase our health and fitness knowledge, we start to increase our own power over bad choices and increase the number of good choices we make.  This is absolutely critical since our ...
